Trusted with the things that matter most.
A pet-health app holds sensitive things — vet records, photos, where you live, who watches your dog. This is how Snoutbook is built to protect them, in plain language. For the human privacy story — metadata, consent, sharing — see Privacy at Snoutbook.
Locked in transit, at rest, and in your pocket.
Your pet's records are encrypted at every stage — moving, stored, and cached on your phone.
In transit
Every connection between the app and our servers is encrypted with modern TLS. Nothing your pet's data touches travels in the clear.
At rest
Records and documents are encrypted at rest on AWS — files with AES-256. Vet-report PDFs live in a private store with no public access at all, reachable only through a short-lived, authorized link.
On your device
The offline copy on your phone — the part that saves you at 2 a.m. with no signal — is stored encrypted too, so it's protected even in your pocket.
The server decides who sees what.
Access isn't enforced by hiding buttons in the app. It's checked on the server, on every single request — so nothing can be reached by working around the interface.
A verified identity
Every request carries a signed proof of who you are, issued when you sign in. No token, no access.
Authorized on every request
Each action is checked against exactly the data it's allowed to touch. A sitter without document access can't fetch documents — not because the button is hidden, but because the server says no.
Least privilege, everywhere
The backend is split into small pieces that each hold only the permissions their one job needs — so a single component can never reach data that isn't its business.
A firewall out front
Production traffic sits behind a web application firewall that filters malicious requests before they ever reach the app.
Powerful AI, on a short leash.
Snoutbook runs on Anthropic's Claude — chosen as much for its safety record as its ability. Here's how it's kept in bounds.
Grounded only in your records
The AI answers from your pet's data — not the open internet. It reads what your account allows and nothing else, authorized server-side on every read.
Opt-in, feature by feature
Every AI capability has its own switch, and each asks before it touches your data. Snoutbook works fully with all of them off.
Never used to train models
Your pet's records are never used to train AI models — not ours, not Anthropic's. Your data works for you and stops there.
Screened before it's shared
Every upload is checked by an automated AI safety pass before anyone else on your account can see it — a wall that welcomes clinical reality and blocks what doesn't belong.
Which model, and where. Background work runs on Claude Haiku 4.5 on every plan; Ask AI and the smart features use Claude Sonnet 5 on Plus & Pro. The full breakdown lives on the AI page.
Ready when the network isn't.
Security that fails in an emergency isn't security. Snoutbook is offline-first by design: your pet's emergency snapshot and documents are cached — encrypted — on your phone, so they open with zero signal, in a concrete exam room, at 2 a.m. The most important part of the app never depends on a network you might not have.
What we'll never do.
Never sell your data
Your pet's records are not a product. We don't sell them, rent them, or hand them to data brokers — subscriptions are the business model.
Never train AI on your records
What you store stays yours. It's used to help you organize and prepare — never to train a model.
Never run ads
No ad networks, no third-party trackers following you around the web. The app answers to you, not an advertiser.
Never lock you in
Export everything by category as CSV or JSON whenever you like. Your pet's history is yours to take with you, always.
