Privacy at Snoutbook

Your pet's story is yours.

A health app holds sensitive things — vet records, photos, where you live, who watches your dog. Here's exactly how Snoutbook treats that trust, in plain language.

Every upload, every time

Cleaned and checked before it's kept.

A record never lands in your library untouched. Within seconds of an upload, three things happen automatically:

1

Hidden data is stripped out

Phone photos secretly carry metadata — GPS location, device details, timestamps. Snoutbook removes all of it before your file is stored, so a photo of your dog's paw can never quietly reveal where your home is.

2

The file is standardized

Whatever you upload — a HEIC photo, a scanned fax, an odd document format — is converted to a clean, consistent format that opens instantly on every device and stays readable years from now.

3

AI gives it a safety check

Every upload is screened for genuinely inappropriate content before it's shared with anyone else on your account. It's a safety wall, not a censor: graphic medical photos — wounds, x-rays, post-surgery shots — are exactly what Snoutbook is for and always welcome.

If something is declined, it's never posted, you're told why, and profile photos simply keep their previous image. The ground rules live in our Acceptable Use Policy.

Storage & encryption

Locked in transit. Locked at rest. Locked in your pocket.

On the way

Everything between your phone and our servers travels over encrypted connections (TLS 1.2+). Nothing is ever sent in the clear.

In the cloud

Records and documents are stored encrypted at rest (AES-256 — the same encryption banks use) on AWS infrastructure, with tightly scoped access — each request is authorized against exactly the data it's allowed to touch.

On your phone

The offline copies that make emergencies survivable are encrypted on-device too — and you control how long they're retained. Signing out wipes them.

You hold the controls: how long offline copies are kept, and a one-tap Clear Offline Cache — and signing out wipes them entirely.

Want the technical side — server-enforced access, least-privilege infrastructure, and how the AI is kept in bounds? See our Security & Trust page.

Sharing

Consent isn't a checkbox. It's the architecture.

Nobody sees your pets unless you invited them — and the server, not the app's interface, is what enforces it.

Invitation-only, always

Family members and sitters join through invites you send. There is no public discovery, no search, no "people you may know."

Enforced on every request

Permissions are checked server-side on each and every action. A sitter without document access can't fetch documents — not "the button is hidden," but "the server says no."

Revocable and time-boxed

End a sitter's access anytime — or schedule it to expire on its own when the weekend ends. Access removed is access gone, immediately.

A record of who did what

Every change carries its author. If a dose was logged or a record edited, you can see by whom and when — accountability built into shared care.

Everyone with access in one place — emergency contacts, sitters, and family members you invited, each at exactly the level of access you chose.
AI & your data

Helpful AI, honest boundaries.

Opt-in, not opt-out

Every AI feature asks for your explicit consent before it touches your data — and the app works fully without AI if you'd rather keep it off. Flip it off later and AI processing stops.

Minimum necessary data

When AI answers a question about your pet, it receives only the relevant slices of their history — encrypted in transit to our AI provider (Anthropic's Claude), used to generate the answer, and that's it.

Never used for training

Your pet's data is processed to generate your responses — it is not used to train AI models. Your dog's medical history doesn't become anyone's dataset.

Never sold, either

We don't sell your personal information. Not to advertisers, not to data brokers, not to anyone. Our business model is subscriptions — you're the customer, not the product.

The app's consent screen before enabling Background AI — what it does, where your data goes, how to turn it off, with Enable and Cancel buttons
Opt-in, made literal: before any AI runs, the app spells out what it does, where your data goes, and that it's never used to train models — with Cancel right there.
Your data, your call

Take it with you. Or make it disappear.

Export everything

Your complete data — records, history, documents — exports to CSV or JSON whenever you want it. Switching vets, switching apps, or just keeping a copy: it's yours.

Delete means delete

Deleting your account removes your data — records, documents, photos, shared access, everything — from our systems. Not hidden, not archived for later: removed.
